Peter Bernstein is widely regarded as one of the defining jazz guitarists of his generation. Born in New York City in 1967, his career was launched while studying at The New School, where legendary guitarist Jim Hall invited him to perform at the 1990 JVC Jazz Festival alongside Pat Metheny and John Scofield. That same year, he joined saxophonist Lou Donaldson’s group, beginning a lifetime of world-class collaborations.

Over the last 35 years, Bernstein has appeared on more than 300 albums and released over a dozen acclaimed recordings as a leader. His musical associations span generations of jazz royalty—from masters like Sonny Rollins, Jimmy Cobb, and Dr. Lonnie Smith to contemporary icons like Joshua Redman, Brad Mehldau, and Diana Krall. He is also a co-founder of the celebrated Larry Goldings / Peter Bernstein / Bill Stewart organ trio, hailed by The New York Times as "the best organ trio of the last decade."

Known for a clean, spare, melodic sound inspired as much by horn players as classic guitarists, Bernstein is a sought-after clinician and faculty member at institutions like NYU and The New School, sharing his deep wisdom on phrasing, voice-leading, and the art of jazz improvisation worldwide.
